Why do long form television dramas from different countries offer different representations?

·         Consider the contexts in which long form television dramas are produced and consumed

·         Explain how media contexts may have influences representations in the set episodes of the two long form television dramas you have studied

·         Make judgements and reach conclusions about the reasons for the differences in representation between the two episodes

Social context – representation of gender, racial and ethnic inequalities, social attitudes to sexualities and age, etc. American Dream, ‘western’ values.
Cultural context – cultural identity and how it it shown/reinforced through tv drama; challenges and subversions; cultural globalisation; hybrids; recognition of archetypes
Historical context – impact of key historical events, e.g. 9/11, the war on terror, reunification, the impact on national psyche.
Political context – attitudes, how television reflects, reinterprets, amplifies and satirises. Does the audience need political awareness to understand the tv drama?
Economic context – budget, production, distribution. Mention location, SFX, costume etc.
