Media theory videos

https://mrsblacksmedia2.wordpress.com/2018/11/14/year-12-13-key-theories-and-academic-ideas-media-language/?fbclid=IwAR3uM-SvZU5BUCJGvuuErTmmH0Hg2clc-cB5HsLt-7pdQzl_iX4ogXZooPo This blog has made a compilation of good media theory videos and should help you revise. Just a small point on Barthes, though:   Barthes is about  denotation/connotation and myths rather than the different codes as in BF's video so don't get confused!

BFI Academy

https://www.bfi.org.uk/education-research/5-19-film-education-scheme-2013-2017/bfi-film-academy-scheme If you're interested in production at all, this would be amazing! Some of my students have done this previously, and one made a fabulous contact that is providing her with valuable work experience now she's at uni. About half of applicants usually get accepted and they're generous with their bursaries so it really is worth your while to apply. Let me know if you'd like me to check your application or want help with this, Ms Cope

Video project 16-19 November

As a pair or a three, analyse your chosen video and print out the first 12 frames (or film your annotation of them). You will then need to analyse them considering: - the genre. How is this shown through the codes and conventions? - the 'grammar' of the video. Shot type and duration, camera angles, edits, transitions etc - mise-en-scene including setting, props and costume. - is there lip synching? Are there intertextual references? - what does the video 'say' about the artist? Remember, use your media language and high level vocabulary. This will need to be handed in during Tuesday's lesson. Dedicate homework time to this, but don't neglect your revision. Remember it is the first 12 frames only!

Work for Friday 9th November

• In your group, you will have been given a newspaper front page and a theorist • As a pair consider how useful this theorist is when considering the representation on your front page and how their theories could be applied. Remember representation covers age, gender, disability, sexual identity and orientation, regional identity, social class and ethnicity. Bear in mind the paper's audience. • Consider another representation theorist whose work you believe would be more relevant and explore why you believe this. (hint: these are the green ones on the wall. You don’t have to have studied them yet to use them) • Individually, write an essay style answer on this. Use your new vocabulary! I'd expect at least five uses of different terms in the essay.  This needs to be completed for homework. Remember - a side and a half to to sides.

Theory revision

This is for when you've learned a few more theorists... when you're ready this is a mildly diverting way to revise. play.kahoot.it/?fbclid=IwAR0pGU6_clOyAVQ3d7vuAFBs_GqOw1ddcJfy0jkYOtgDIYPQucdYFgrV2wc#/lobby?quizId=39c9dd86-a397-4439-8b0e-f8ad5d7dbe46

Disney v Sky

Useful for Media Industry questions, particularly Jungle Book and LFTVD. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/nov/05/sky-faces-loss-of-disney-content-as-it-leaves-the-ftse-100?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook&fbclid=IwAR1rvX9kQzSlAsZhmFKptuZAnh8WePCxAhmKabojKsNv_bWVkXZstdRd2co
